Father's Day Photo Booth

My sisters and I decided to do something a little different this year for Father's Day.  Our dad's office already has plenty of pictures of us kids acting normal while smiling at the camera, so we chose to change it up a bit.  I used my Silhouette to cut out a few dad-related props, then taped a kabob stick to the backs of them.

The quote I'm holding up is a family joke from years ago.  I was entering an essay contest based on the question, "What is the best advice you have ever been given?"  As I was deciding my topic, Dad imparted his wisdom by telling us that if we ever find ourselves homeless, we would be best off to live someplace warm.  Needless to say, I did not win that scholarship.  The quote, however, has stuck around.

Happy Father's Day, Dad.  We love you!

Gender Reveal Party

As previously mentioned, David and I are eagerly expecting the arrival of our new baby.  Last month we had a gender reveal party with my family to find out if we are having a boy or girl.

We told the ultrasound technician up front that we didn't want her to use pronouns or tell us the gender when she saw "the" shot.  She had us look away when she came to that part of the anatomy scan, then stepped out of the room and called my mom with the news.  As we were finishing the rest of the appointment, my mom was on the other side of town filling a white lantern with pink or blue confetti.

Once we got home and our guests arrived, David and I stood under the lantern and each pulled one of the two strings attached to the bottom.  The flap of paper holding the confetti in came loose, spilling down a lovely shade of pink paper.

It's been a little over a month since we found out we're having a baby girl and we're still finding pink confetti all over the house, but it was very much worth it and gives me something to smile about as I vacuum the house.

Shabby Chic Lamp

The front of the house gets really dark at night, so I needed a lamp with a timer to go in the library.  I found a yellow lamp base at Goodwill for $4.00 and gave it a few coats of white spray paint.  For the shade, I cut long strips of fabric and hot glued them into a circle to resemble flowers.

After that, I glued them around the base of the shade and it was all done.

Announcement

So I've been MIA for the past five months...but for good reason.  We found out in January that we're expecting our first child this fall.  Blogging was put on hold due to morning sickness, celebrating, and just general excitement, but I plan on eventually posting all the projects (including several nursery ones!) that have been accomplished since my last update.
